LIFE BEFORE HOBI

Recently the HOBI Board provided an opportunity for willing Board members to talk about their professional life before joining HOBI. The first of those recorded conversations occurred on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at the Morrison residence. The conversation with Thomas MIhalchick is available below. Mihalchick details his motivation for entering the broadcasting industry, as well as his experiences working in both small markets (Gallup NM, Coos Bay OR, Wickenburg AZ) and a large market (Phoenix - KLFF, KJ92, KOY, KNIX). Participants in the conversation were: Mary Morrison, Pat McMahon, and Polly Schumacher.
Recently the HOBI Board provided an opportunity for willing Board members to talk about their professional life before joining HOBI. The second of those recorded conversations occurred on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the Morrison residence. The conversation with Polly Schumacher is available below.
Schumacher details her life both before and after joining the broadcast industry through her employment at KTVK- TV3, Arizona's Family.
Participants in the conversation were: Mary Morrison, Lynda Gallagher, Pat McMahon, Thomas Mihalchick, Maurie Helle, Geri Rosato, and Schumacher.
Recently the HOBI Board provided an opportunity for willing Board members to talk about their professional life before joining HOBI. The third video in our series "Life Before HOBI" is a conversation with Board member Maurie Helle. Helle tells the story of how he came to the television industry and Channel 10 (KOOL -TV). You'll hear how he became a Director and worked with local legends such as Barry Goldwater, Bill Close, and Mary Jo West. The conversation was recorded at the April 2021 HOBI Board of Director's meeting on the patio at the Mary Morrison residence. Participants in the conversation were: Mary Morrison, Lynda Gallagher, Susan Baker, Pat McMahon, Thomas Mihalchick, Geri Rosato, Sofia Wong, and Polly Schumacher.
’The fourth video in our series "Life Before HOBI" is a conversation with Board member Judy Schriener. Schriener tells the story of how she began her writing career.
The conversation was recorded at the July 2021 HOBI Board of Director's meeting at the Mary Morrison residence. Participants in the conversation were: Mary Morrison, Pat McMahon, Thomas Mihalchick, Sofia Wong, and Polly Schumacher.
The fifth video in our series "Life Before HOBI" is Aconversaton with Board member Lynda Gallagher. Gallagher explains how she got into the broadcasting industry and managed to stay at Channel 5, KPHO TV, for 25 years. The conversation was recorded at the HD South Museum in Gilbert, AZ during the BOard's monthly meeting, on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

Recently the HOBI Board provided an opportunity for willing Board members to talk about their professional life before joining HOBI. The sixth and seventh videos in our collection belong to Pat McMahon. In McMahon1 Pat tells the story of his youth and introduction to the broadcast industry. There are a number of surprises in store for you here. In McMahon2 Pat explains the creation of the beloved (?) character "Gerald" on "The Wallace and Ladmo Show", and explains the origin and brief history of "Hubcap and the Wheels". The conversations were recorded on October 21, 2021, and January 13, 2022. In attendance were board members Maurie Helle, Lynda Gallagher, Thomas Mihalchick, Mary Morrison, and Polly Schumacher.
